Adjacent to the historic district of Dilworth, this cottage style house was built in 1937 with only 1000 square feet and minimal curb appeal on a corner lot before zoning was enforced.  It had evolved thru the years with some alteration.  The front facing gas pack HVAC unit and vinyl siding further diminished its appeal. The new owners were interested in beginning their marriage in the home more to their liking with amenities and room for entertainment.  The small and compact structure was located at the corner setbacks and one foot over the side yard setback at the adjoining lot.  To complicate matters, there are large canopy trees in the rear and a grade sloping from front to back. This house was also featured in Urban home magazine see “Unlocking Hidden potential” summer ’08.

We completely renovated and converted this home in Dilworth from approximately 1800 square feet to 2400 square feet. The scope of work included placing a master suite, new kitchen, addition of media room, and a hall bath to a bungalow style one-story house. This project was nominated for “best historic restoration” by Historic Charlotte Inc. This house was also featured in Urban home magazine see “Restoring a Dilworth Memory” fall ’03 (PDF file 725k).
