Project Description
Major Remodeling and Addition in South Charlotte
This home is situated on an attractive
property in a desirable section of South Charlotte. There was no
question in the minds of the owners that the property would
support the major addition and remodeling that they desired.
The architect developed a creative design that achieved major
improvements in both the interior and exterior appearance of the
home. The added side entrance that flowed into a small Office,
Pantry and Gathering room also served to break up the mass of
the existing garage sidewall as viewed from the street. It also
provided an alternative guest entrance from the driveway and
added to the privacy of the rear yard.
The preferred family entrance is from the Garage interior. This
entrance was modified by addition second Stairway, a relocated
Laundry, a Cubby for family garments and sports gear as well as
a built in Wine Storage cabinet.
The rear added on portion of the home, seamlessly integrated the
Kitchen, informal Dining and Gathering room, with fireplace, to
the existing structure. To help define the distinct activity
areas the design included an attractive bold coffered ceiling
and load-bearing columns at the entrance to the open Gathering
room area. The Kitchen features a massive granite surfaced
island that serves as both a work area and an inviting seating
area for family meals and casual entertaining of guests. The
chef of the family never has to be alone while entertaining or
preparing meals for the family or guests. The view from the new
kitchen provides light in all directions due to the added
windows and large doors to the screened porch.
The construction comprises 1050 square feet of new-finished
heated area and 470 square feet of renovated heated area. The
screen porch with fireplace and a small deck for grilling added
an additional 470 square feet of unheated area. Poor soil
conditions presented an added challenge for the contractor and
the foundation required installation of a 14 Helical Pier
System.
