Home Builders Association of Charlotte
Excellence In Remodeling 2010 – Gold Award Winner
General Renovation 120 ~ 240 K

This home, located in the Providence Plantation section of southern
Charlotte, was quite attractive from the front of the property. The best
description of the rear façade, however, could be summed up in two words:
“imposing ugly.” The homeowners provided the Residential Designer with
budget and a list of objectives.
Downstairs, the Kitchen and Hall areas were opened up to improve the “flow”
and to integrate the Kitchen/Breakfast areas with a newly added Sunroom. A
Laundry without windows was converted into a well-lighted Office and a new
Laundry/Mudroom was created adjacent to the attached Garage.
The interior upstairs changes involved a new Master Bedroom Walk-in Closet,
a new Stairway, and a major Master Bath remodel. Added windows brighten the
Bath. The newly added home heated area (excluding the stand-alone Poolhouse)
is 560 square feet. Renovated area is 770 square feet.
The ultimate objective for the rear yard was to create a welcoming, private
outdoor area for summer entertainment. A beautifully landscaped Swimming
Pool/Spa area achieve this. The Poolhouse features an Exercise Room, full
Bath, and outside Bar, and outside Shower. This structure, together with
attractive fencing and landscaping, provide the privacy that the client was
seeking.
The added windows on both floors of the house, as well as the Sunroom,
greatly improve the rear façade of the home. The new façade might now be
more properly characterized as: “imposing attractive.” |
